In order to have dedicated laptop computers for each fourth grader, the school needs to purchase 11 laptops, and a cart. The other five needed laptops can come from the current cart which would still have enough computers for the grades 3, 5, and 6 classrooms to share. The professional development funds will be used to contract with Jim Moulton (http://jimmoulton.org) to spend 2-3 days in August working with the Grade 4 teacher to prepare the classroom and curriculum for taking full advantage of this opportunity. If this pilot is successful, then Grade 5 would be added next year and Grade 6 the following year. Using a staggered leasing strategy, it is expected that the school board and community would support the incremental budget increases to expand this model to Grades 5 and 6.
